Cataract Surgery

What is Cataract Surgery?

It is a procedure to remove the lens of your eye and, in most cases, replace it with an artificial lens. Normally, the lens of your eye is clear. A cataract causes the lens to become cloudy, which eventually affects your vision.

It is a very common procedure and it is generally safe.

Why is it done?

When the lens in your eye is clouded, your vision is blurred and it becomes difficult to perform your daily tasks. The doctor then recommends cataract surgery.  In the early stages, it is possible to manage and the doctor may tell you to wait till the cataract needs to be operated.

Waiting for the Cataract Surgery will not harm your eyes. So you have time to think about your options. If your vision is still good, you may not need a surgery for many years.

Some Important Questions to consider before going for Cataract Operation:
  • Is your vision good enough to do your daily tasks and drive?
  • Are you able to watch TV or read a book?
  • Are you able to cook, shop or climb stairs without having a problem?
  • Are you able to do your work Independently?
  • Do bright lights trouble you?

If all the above questions suggests that you are able to do things, then you do not require a Cataract Operation right away.
