Glaucoma or kala motiabind as it is known in Hindi is an insidious destroyer of your eyesight. It is a disease that can lead to blindness. It is dangerous because there are no symptoms at the outset. Very often, only after much damage has been done, the patient realizes that he has glaucoma. Unfortunately, the damage done is irreversible. If it is not detected and treated, glaucoma can destroy your eyesight.

If glaucoma is detected at an early stage, steps can be taken to control it. Therefore it is very important to have a check up for glaucoma on a regular basis. Those who have a family history of this disease are at risk. Those over 40 years of age should also be on guard.
Preparation For Camp
In order to make people aware and to help in controlling this disease, Bihar Eye Bank Trust with Mankind Pharma is holding a Free Glaucoma Screening camp at Jharkhand Eye Bank, Hospital and Research Centre, Medical chowk, Bariatu Road, Ranchi on Monday 30 May 2022 from 10.30 am to 1 pm. The members of Mankind Pharma will put up posters to inform people about glaucoma and will also distribute pamphlets so that as many as possible become aware of the dangers of this disease. Mankind Pharma staff will also interact with patients about glaucoma.

A free Glaucoma Screening Camp was held in Jharkhand Eye Bank, Hospital and Research Centre, Bariatu Road, Ranchi on 30 May 2022. Patients visiting the hospital for treatment were tested for glaucoma. Staff of Mankind Pharma informed the patients in the waiting room about the dangers of the disease and the need for early detection if anyone affected. Glaucoma is the second major reason for blindness after cataract. Pamphlets about the disease were distributed so that more people can become aware of the danger. Persons having a family history of glaucoma should have regular checkups. Those who are over forty should also check regularly because the damage done by glaucoma is permanent and cannot be repaired.

Jharkhand Eye Bank Hospital and Research Centre is run by Bihar Eye Bank Trust, a registered charitable trust (No. 17174 of 1974 under the Indian Trust Act), founded by Late N. Bakshi I.C.S. The Trust is headed by H.E. the Governor of Jharkhand and includes other state dignitaries.
The Bihar Eye Bank Trust is a permanent member of Eye Bank Association of India and is registered under the District Blindness Control Society, Ranchi.
The Hospital is housed in a three-storied building standing on 0.7 acres of land in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. It is easily reached road, rail and air.
